Just finished my build with a Gigabyte 4080 Super and honestly I am panicking a little bit seeing how much this thing weighs. It is literally drooping the second I let go of it and I am so scared I am gonna wake up to a snapped motherboard or a broken pcie slot tomorrow morning... it looks so bad. I didnt think it would be this heavy but the heatsink is just massive and the shroud is way bigger than it looked in the pictures. I am currently propping it up with a stack of my kids old lego bricks but that looks ridiculous in a $2k build and I dont think it is even that stable.
I have about $25 or maybe $30 max left in my budget for this because the GPU drained my soul and I need to get something on Amazon Prime today so it gets here by Saturday at the latest. I am stuck between two different styles and I cant decide which is actually gonna work. Option A is one of those vertical kickstand poles like the ones from Cooler Master or just a generic uphere one. My worry there is that I have intake fans at the bottom of my case and I dont know if there is enough flat space on the PSU shroud to even stand the thing up without it hitting the fan blades or just being super unstable and tipping over the second I bump the desk.
The other option is one of those horizontal brackets that screws into the expansion slots right below the card. I was looking at the EZDIY-FAB one or maybe the ASUS ROG one if I can find it on sale. But I keep reading reviews saying the horizontal ones just bend under the weight anyway which would totally defeat the whole purpose of buying one. Then there is that Lian Li anti-sag bracket that actually screws into the motherboard standoffs but it looks like a total nightmare to install now that everything is already put together and cable managed.
My card is a triple fan beast and the sag is already making me nervous every time I look at it. Is the pole style actually stable if I have to squeeze it between fans or should I just get the horizontal bar and hope it doesnt just sag along with the card? I really dont want to ruin a $1000 card because I was too cheap to get a $20 bracket...
I went through this exact same panic with my last build. I eventually settled on the uphere Graphics Card GPU Brace Support Video Card Sag Holder because it was extremely budget-friendly and simple. I have been very satisfied with it. Regarding your concern about bottom intake fans, these poles usually have a very small magnetic base. You can often wedge it right onto the corner of a fan frame or on the thin strip of case between fans... it works well and remains quite stable. The horizontal brackets often flex under the weight of a 4080 Super, so I would avoid those. For under $10, you can get a basic aluminum screw-type pole that does exactly what it needs to do. No complaints so far, and it saved me a lot of money compared to something like the ASUS ROG Herculx Graphics Card Anti-Sag Holder which is basically the same thing but way more expensive. It definitely beats using Legos.
Re: "I went through this exact same panic with..." - honestly, those horizontal bars you mentioned are usually such a disappointment. I've tried a few over the years and most just start sagging themselves after a month because the metal is too thin for a 4080. It ends up looking even more janky than your lego setup. The Lian Li GB-001 Anti-Sag Bracket is the gold standard but yeah, install is a pain since it goes on the standoffs. Since you've got bottom fans, maybe check out the DeepCool ST500 ARGB GPU Support Bracket. It actually mounts to the expansion slots but acts like a vertical pillar. It's much more stable than those tiny poles and stays out of the way of your fan blades. Just avoid the basic horizontal strips, they really aren't as good as expected for cards this heavy and you'll just be back to square one in a week.
