Which air cooler works best for both AMD and Intel? because I am seriously losing my mind trying to figure this out and I dont want to buy the wrong thing. I am trying to build my first ever PC and I have all these parts sitting in my cart but the cooling part is making me want to cry. I keep seeing people talk about sockets and mounting brackets and I literally have no idea what any of that actually means like why cant they just make one fan that fits everything?

I am looking at an Intel i5 thingy but my brother said he might give me his old AMD Ryzen 5 for my birthday next month so I am stuck in the middle. I need to buy the cooler now because there is a sale ending tonight at the shop down the street but I dont know which one to pick if I dont even know which CPU I will have yet. I only have like 55 or 60 dollars left in my budget for this because I spent way too much on the shiny case with all the lights and now I feel like a total idiot. I live in a really dusty apartment in Phoenix and it gets super hot in my room during the summer so I am terrified the computer is gonna melt or catch fire if I dont get a good one.

I went to the store today and the guy was talking about AM4 and AM5 and LGA 1700 and I just stared at him like he was speaking another language and I felt so embarrassed. Is there like a universal one? Something that just clicks in without needing a PhD in engineering or a million different tiny screws? I saw a Noctua one that looked okay but it was brown and kind of ugly and I dont know if it fits both types of boards. Then there was a Cooler Master one but the box had so much text I got overwhelmed and had to leave. I just need something reliable that isnt gonna break and will work no matter which chip I end up using in the end. Sorry if this is a really basic question but I am just so confused and frustrated with all these numbers...

Honestly, dont stress it too much. Most coolers these days come with both mounting kits in the box, so you just pick the set of screws that matches your motherboard. For Phoenix heat and a $60 budget, you really cant beat the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE. Its a dual-tower beast that handles Intel LGA 1700 and AMD AM4/AM5 no problem. I have used it in three builds recently and it stays quiet even when the room is 80 degrees. Tbh, it performs like a 100 dollar cooler for half the price. If you want something a bit easier to install and less bulky, the DeepCool AK400 is also solid. It comes with a simple bracket system that basically takes five minutes to set up. Just check the box to make sure it mentions LGA 1700 and AM5, which are the current standards for modern chips. Quick tip... since you live in a dusty place, get a cooler where the fans are easy to unclip. You're gonna want to blast it with compressed air every few months. The Thermalright ones use simple wire clips that make cleaning easy. Stay away from the super cheap stuff if you are worried about the Phoenix summer... you need the surface area of a bigger heatsink to keep those temps down when the ambient air is hot. Building on the earlier suggestion, unfortunately, manufacturers still havent standardized mounting, which is honestly frustrating for new builders.

Sockets like LGA 1700 or AM5 just define the hole spacing on your motherboard.

DeepCool AK400 Digital 120mm is much simpler to set up than most store brands.

Unfortunately, I've had major issues with cheap mounts before... totally frustrating. Just grab any be quiet! air cooler and you'll probably have a much better time than I did.
