Hey everyone! I finally managed to snag an RTX 4090 for my new build, but I'm currently stuck using my old 1440p 60Hz display. It feels like I'm driving a Ferrari on a dirt road! I really want to jump to 4K to actually see what this card can do.
I've been looking at a few 32-inch options, specifically wondering about the trade-offs between:
I mostly play Cyberpunk 2077 and some faster shooters, so a high refresh rate is pretty important to me. Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a 4K monitor that actually does justice to the 4090?
Congrats on the 4090! Honestly, OLED is amazing but those prices are wild. I went with the Gigabyte M32U 32 inch 4K 144Hz IPS to save some cash and it dont disappoint... its been a beast for my setup. If you want that mini-LED brightness for Cyberpunk tho, keep an eye out for deals on the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 32 inch 4K 165Hz. Its way more affordable than the high-end OLEDs.
Just found this thread from yesterday... honestly, dropping that much on a 4090 is a huge move, but choosing the screen is where it gets really tricky. I'm not 100% sure what the absolute top choice is right now because there are so many compromises, but I've been looking into it a lot lately because I'm in a similar boat. Tbh, I'm still kinda cautious about jumping into OLED for a primary display. I think the motion clarity is basically the best you can get for those fast shooters you mentioned, but someone told me the subpixel layout can make text look a bit fringed or blurry compared to a traditional panel. If you do any reading or work on the side, that might get annoying fast. Plus, I'm always worried about burn-in with static HUD elements in long games... it just feels like a lot of money to spend on something that might degrade in a few years if you're not careful. For the HDR side of things, IIRC Mini-LED is the way to go if you want that massive peak brightness that makes neon lights in a game like Cyberpunk really pop. But then you have to deal with blooming around bright objects, which can be distracting in dark scenes. Not sure if it's better to have perfect blacks or higher brightness, it basically depends on your room lighting. Just make sure whatever tech you look at has full bandwidth on the HDMI ports so you arent losing quality. I'd definitely spend some time checking long-term reliability reviews before committing.
I actually went through three high-end displays last year and it was a total nightmare tbh. Spending way too much on a boutique OLED sucked because it had terrible text fringing, and the peak brightness just wasnt as good as expected during the day. It felt like a total waste of cash... unfortunately. After sending it back, I tried to save some money by grabbing the LG 32GR93U-B 32-inch UltraGear 4K UHD 144Hz. Its definitely not as flashy as the OLED stuff, but it gets the job done for way less and you dont have to baby the panel every five minutes. If you really want that HDR punch for Cyberpunk without draining your bank account even further, maybe check out the Innocn 32M2V 32-inch 4K Mini-LED. The stand quality is kinda mid and I had issues with the OSD, but it gives you that local dimming you're looking for without the crazy premium price tag of the big brands. Honestly seeing these monitor prices lately is just depressing, especially when the quality control is still so hit or miss.
