Which liquid cooler works best for high-end AMD and Intel processors?

I need to pick a cooler like yesterday because my current rig just died and I have a client deadline on Monday for this wedding video project. I am stuck between getting the 7950X or the i9 14900K but honestly it feels like both of them are basically space heaters.

I was looking at the Arctic Liquid Freezer III because everyone on Reddit says its the king of performance for the price but then I saw some videos saying the radiator is way thicker than normal and might not fit in the case I already bought which is a bit of a nightmare. My logic was that a 360mm or 420mm would be enough but then I started reading about the contact frame issues on the Intel side vs the offset mount for the AMD chips and now Im just spiraling. I also saw the Lian Li Galahad II Trinity Performance looks amazing but people say the fans are loud as hell and I cant have that while I'm trying to edit audio.

My budget is around $200 for the cooler alone but I really need something that works for both sockets just in case I swap my mind at the last second which happens a lot. What are you guys actually using to keep these chips from thermal throttling under heavy load? Like if I'm rendering for 3 hours straight which one is actually gonna hold up...

Man you're gonna love the power of those chips but yeah they are absolute furnaces!! Quick question tho what case are you actually building in? That makes a massive difference for clearance since you're worried about the radiator thickness. I've been using the DeepCool LT720 360mm Liquid Cooler lately and it's a total beast for reliability! You don't want a pump failure right before your Monday deadline so it's basically a safe bet. It handles huge thermal loads because of the high-pressure fans and motor design. Another fantastic option is the EK-Nucleus AIO CR360 Lux D-RGB because the block design is amazing for handling those sudden Intel spikes.

  • Pumps are super robust for long editing marathons
  • Mounting is way simpler than it used to be
  • Noise levels are much better than the Galahad Trinity Seriously these are fantastic choices if you want something reliable without the Arctic thickness headache! Definitely gonna keep you from throttling during those long renders.

@Reply #1 - good point! I actually disagree about needing a huge budget tho. The Thermalright Frozen Prism 360 Black Liquid Cooler is a total steal.

  • way cheaper
  • easier fit

tbh you might want to be really careful with that Arctic choice. I've used the Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360mm AIO and while it's a beast for cooling, that radiator thickness is no joke. If your case is even slightly tight, it's gonna be a nightmare to fit and might hit your RAM or motherboard heatsinks. Since you're doing heavy video renders for hours, I would suggest looking at the DeepCool LT720 360mm Liquid Cooler instead. It has a much slimmer profile but still manages to keep my 14900K from hitting the thermal ceiling during long exports. Make sure to grab the Thermalright LGA1700 Contact Frame if you go Intel tho, because the stock pressure is just uneven. Honestly, just take your time with the mounting and double check your case clearance specs before hitting buy. Just yell if you need more help checking the dimensions...
