Which protective cases offer the best drop protection for iPhones?

honestly so fed up with these flimsy minimalist cases that claim to protect your phone but then the first time it slips out of your pocket onto the sidewalk the whole back is shattered... it literally just happened to me again and im just ready to throw the whole phone away. im actually kinda excited to finally get something heavy duty though because i cannot keep or afford to keep paying like 200 bucks for screen repairs every six months its just stupid.

so i was thinking about those massive otterbox defender things but then i saw ads for mous and phone rebel and now im just stuck in a loop of reading reviews and watching drop tests on youtube. my logic was that if its thick it must be better but then i read that some of the thinner ones use d3o or special materials that absorb shock better? im in nyc and i walk everywhere so concrete is my worst enemy right now and i really need to get this sorted before my trip to zion next saturday. i have about 70 dollars to spend which i think is enough for a top tier case right? i just want to know what actually survives a real drop onto pavement and not just some controlled lab test. are those fancy carbon fiber ones actually worth the hype or is it all just marketing? i need something that wont fail me when im out on the trails...

Technology has come so far and you can get insane protection without feeling like you're carrying a literal tank in your pocket. Honestly, concrete is unforgiving so be careful with those thin cases. I would suggest the OtterBox Defender Series Case if you dont mind the bulk; its saved my phone on many trails. If that feels too huge, you might want to consider the Mous Limitless 5.0 MagSafe Case. It uses better tech for drops than most, but make sure to check the grip since some finishes are kinda slippery.

Regarding what #3 said about "> i have about 70 dollars to spend..." - i actually think you should be really careful about trying to save money right before a trip like Zion. i used to go for those mid-range options that everyone swears by, thinking they were just as good as the premium brands. then i took a nasty spill on a rocky trail last summer. the phone was in one of those popular 'tough' cases i found online, but it landed face-down on a jagged rock. because the lip on the case wasnt nearly deep enough to protect from an uneven surface, the screen just spider-webbed instantly. it basically ruined my navigation for the rest of the day and was a total nightmare getting back. honestly, my current setup is way chunkier than i like, but after that repair bill i just dont trust the thin stuff or the cheap alternatives anymore. better to spend the full 70 bucks on something heavy duty than deal with a dead phone in the middle of a national park.
