Does anyone have a solid recommendation for a USB-C hub that actually works and doesn't overheat or drop my monitors every five minutes? I'm honestly so done with this cheap $30 one I bought off Amazon last month. It promised 4k 60hz and power delivery but every time I plug in my external drive the whole thing just dies and my MacBook starts acting crazy. It gets so hot I could literally fry an egg on it and I'm worried it's gonna fry my ports too.

I'm working on a video editing project for a client that's due next Friday and I cannot afford to have my setup crashing while I'm transferring 4K footage. I'm in Chicago and can run to a Best Buy or Micro Center if needed, but I'm really looking for something high-end this time. Budget is around $100-$150 because I'm just tired of buying junk that breaks. I need at least two HDMI ports, a couple of USB-A for my legacy drives, and maybe an SD card slot would be nice but not a dealbreaker. I just need it to be reliable. Is CalDigit the only way to go or are there other brands that dont cost an absolute fortune but still provide decent build quality? I'm just so frustrated with these generic plastic bricks that stop working after three weeks...

I'm trying to decide if I should go for a Roost stand paired with a cheap Logitech keyboard or just get a really solid lap desk like the Sofia + Sam one because my neck is already killing me. I've only got about $100 to spend and need to get this stuff by next Tuesday before my new remote gig kicks off. Space is basically non-existent here so whatever I get has to fit under the bed or behind the sofa when I'm done. Is the stand/keyboard combo way better for posture or is the lap desk more practical for someone without a real desk setup...

i really need something that isnt gonna fail when i need it most because my deadline is next thursday and i am totally behind now. i need at least two usb-a ports for my keyboard and mouse and an sd card slot is non-negotiable since i shoot a lot of video. also the hdmi port on my current one flickers like crazy whenever i move my laptop even a tiny bit. my budget is around $80 to $100 which seems like a lot for a dongle but i guess you get what you pay for. i just want something reliable that doesnt feel like a fire hazard. does anyone have recommendations for the best usb-c hubs that actually stay connected and can handle a 4k monitor without dying...

What is the absolute best USB-C hub for running two monitors at the same time without any lag? Im finally setting up my dream desk in my new Austin apartment and I'm so stoked to get this video editing rig finished but the monitor situation is stressing me out lol.

I did a bunch of research and I keep seeing the CalDigit TS4 and some Anker docks like the 575 pop up everywhere but the price gap is huge and I dont know if I actually need to spend that much. People swear by the CalDigit for Macs but Im using a Dell XPS 15 for my work and I read a few forum posts saying it can be buggy with Windows drivers when you try to push dual 4k or even dual 1440p displays. Then I looked at the cheaper Anker ones but some reviews say they get crazy hot and just stop working if you plug in a mouse and keyboard at the same time as the monitors which sounds like a total nightmare.

I need to find something that can handle:

Two 27-inch 1440p monitors

My mechanical keyboard and a wireless mouse

An external SSD for my footage

I gotta order something by Friday because my next big project starts Monday. My budget is around $200 but I guess I could go to $250 if it means I wont have to deal with flickering screens mid-edit. Is there a middle ground option that actually works for PC setups or should I just bite the bullet on the expensive stuff? I just want it to be plug and play without me having to troubleshoot every morning...

What are the top recommended ergonomic stands for laptops right now? Im basically trying to decide between the Rain Design mStand and the Twelve South Curve but I keep going back and forth on which is actually better for my neck. I start a new remote job in like ten days so I really need to get my desk setup sorted out before the first day of training hits. My desk is honestly tiny because I live in a studio apartment in Chicago and there isnt much room for a massive setup so I need something that doesnt have a huge footprint.

The mStand looks super sturdy like it wont wobble while I type on my external keyboard but the Curve looks a bit more modern and maybe takes up less space? I have about 60 bucks to spend max. Ive seen some cheaper ones on Amazon too like the Nulaxy folding one but I worry they will be cheap and flimsy and I dont want my MacBook sliding off onto the floor halfway through a Zoom call. Which one do you guys think stays cooler too since my laptop gets pretty hot when I have too many tabs open. Is the solid aluminum on the mStand better for heat than the open design of the Curve?

Rain Design mStand

Twelve South Curve

Nulaxy Ergonomic Stand

Im leaning towards the mStand but the space issue is real...
