I'm having some issues with my LG Nexus 4 smartphone and I think a hard reset might help resolve them. However, I'm not quite sure about the correct steps to perform a hard reset on this specific device.

Could someone please provide a step-by-step guide on how to hard reset an LG Nexus 4? I want to make sure I follow the right procedure to avoid causing any damage to my phone.

Also, will a hard reset erase all my data? If so, what's the best way to back up my important files before proceeding with the reset?

Here are the detailed steps to perform a hard reset on your LG Nexus 4:

  1. Backup your data Before factory resetting, make sure to backup any important data on your phone that you want to keep. You can backup contacts, photos, videos etc. to your Google account or copy files to a computer. A hard reset will erase all data.

  2. Turn off the phone Press and hold the Power button until "Power off" appears on screen. Tap it to turn your phone off completely.

  3. Enter recovery mode With the phone turned off, press and hold the Volume Down button and Power button at the same time for a few seconds. You should see the bootloader with an Android figure lying down.

  4. Navigate to 'Wipe data/factory reset' Use the Volume buttons to scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and press the Power button to select it.

  5. Confirm reset It will ask you to confirm if you want to wipe all user data. Select "Yes -- delete all user data" using the Power button and confirm with the Volume Up or Down keys.

  6. Reboot system After the reset completes, select "Reboot system now" to restart your LG Nexus 4.

The phone should now boot up with factory default settings, no bloatware, and no data from your previous setup. Sign into your Google account to download apps and restore any data you backed up. Let me know if you have any other questions!

just catching up on this but honestly if your volume buttons are wonky you can just do it through the settings menu or adb. in my experience the button combo is a pain on older hardware. if the phone still boots just go to settings then backup and reset. if you want the technical way, use Google Android SDK Platform-Tools on your pc.

  • connect the nexus 4 via a solid cable like an Anker PowerLine Micro USB Cable
  • open a command prompt
  • type 'adb reboot recovery' to get into the menu for backups dont waste money on paid apps. i always just use Google Drive for the basic stuff and then manually copy the dcim and downloads folders to my desktop via windows explorer. its the most cost-effective way to ensure you dont lose anything. i've tried many tools over the years and simple file transfer is still king for these older nexus devices... check out xda developers too if you run into any bootloop issues after the reset.
