When you are unable to power on your Essential Phone phone hard reset recovery tutorial

This is a simple step by step instructional article  to help guide you through the steps of doing a hard reset on your Essential Android phone.

If your phone crashes, reboots, freeze, or cannot be powered on Some third-party software is not compatible with your phone. Reset the phone to factory status. Uninstall the software that may cause the problem or upgrade the phone software. (not tested yet)

  1. Turn off the phone. 
  2. Press and hold the Volume UP and POWER ON the phone until the phone turns on, the screen lights up.
    Note: if nothing happens try the VOLUME down instead of Vol up.
  3. Now the recovery menu will come up.
  4. Use the volume key and navigate to Wipe data / Factory reset and press POWER to confirm the highlighted selection.
  5. Navigate to yes -- delete all user data and confirm the data deletion.
  6. Wait until the hard reset operation ends and the phone reboots.

Note: After this procedure the first boot may take a little longer than usual. Be patient.

 If you fail to draw the correct pattern on the screen after five attempts, you will be prompted to wait for 30 seconds before you can try again. If you still cannot recall the unlock pattern, you can touch Forget pattern? and enter your Google account user name and password. The phone will then connect to the Internet to verify your account and prompt you to reset the screen lock. NOTE: You must sign in or create a Google account on your phone before using the above method to reset the screen lock. Otherwise, upgrade the phone software. Doing so will erase all your personal data on the phone.

Erase all of your personal data from internal phone storage, including information about your Google Account, any other accounts, your system and application settings, and any downloaded applications. You can also mark the Erase SD card check box to erase all the data on your microSD card, such as music or photos. If you reset the phone in this way, you’re prompted to re-enter the same kind of information as when you first started Android.

1. On the Home screen, touch the Menu Key .
2. Touch System settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset.
NOTE You can touch the checkbox to also erase all contents from your microSD card when the phone is reset.
3. Read the warning and touch Reset phone.
4.Touch Erase everything.
Attention: If a factory reset is performed, all installed application and user data will be erased. Please remember to back up any important data before performing a factory reset.

When you first power on your phone after reset it to factory settings (in Backup & reset menu option), you need to finish some basic settings before using it.
